Researching ESG policy for Australian farm prosperity
An experienced CEO and board member, Catherine Marriott OAM is a keen agribusiness professional and advisor. She currently sits on the Murray Local Land Services Board, the Rural Bank Advisory Board and the Farm Trade Australia Board.
Now, Catherine is set to turn her hand to a 2024 Nuffield Scholarship, which will see her research the impacts of global Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) policies on Australian farmers.
Catherine's scholarship is supported by Agrifutures Australia.
"Global ESG policy is changing more rapidly than ever.
Catherine says she wants to use her scholarship to inform Australian farmers, advocacy groups, research organisations and government on the impact and options of current and future ESG requirements.
"That will help ensure Australian farmers can capitalise on the opportunities and not be left behind. I seek to learn from diverse thinkers while contributing to Nuffield, an organisation that has positively changed agriculture globally."
Catherine has her sights set on travel to the European Union, including Brussels, Rome and the Netherlands, which she describes as "thought leaders in global ESG policy".
She will also travel to Africa, Asia, Brazil and the US and UK.
Catherine says her research aligns with several industry strategies, including the NFF 2030 Roadmap, MLA Carbon Neutral 2030 Roadmap, Australian beef, sheep, cotton and grain sustainability frameworks, as well as the Federal Government's commitment to the Global Methane Pledge.
