Program components
Our comprehensive program includes a range of group and individual components. While self-led research is a large component of our program, meeting and connecting with other scholars enables our cohorts to support each other – making friends for life along the way.
National conference
Held in September, scholars attend the two-day conference, regional tour and meet their cohort. Engage with the Nuffield network and receive your program briefing.
Contemporary scholars conference
Held in March, a one-week program for all new scholars from around the world. Build networks, consider international trade and policy issues, share and learn about different cultures.
Australian focus program
1-2 week program commencing in Canberra. Learn about advocacy, policy, megatrends, drought resilience and sustainability. Enhance your industry knowledge with farm, agribusiness and research facility visits.
Global focus program
Five weeks of group travel, around the world. Investigate agricultural marketing, trade, environmental issues including drought resilience and enjoy social and cultural experiences.
Individual study
Four to five weeks of self-directed travel, aligned with your chosen area of study.
Reporting and presenting
Once you finish your travel and research, a written report is required along with a presentation of your findings at a national conference.

It pushed me outside my comfort zone by being in new environments and constantly engaging with people. But those challenges were exactly what made it such a valuable personal development experience. It taught me to adapt quickly, helped me grow my communication skills, and forced me to think critically about agriculture on a global scale.
