Nuffield Scholar Robert Beggs AM, devoted years to serving the agricultural community of Victoria.
Robert was a fine wool grower who with his family, owned one of the Western District’s better known sheep properties, Buln Gherin at Beaufort.
Robert was President of the Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria and the Australian Superfine Wool Growers Association. He was also a council member and Chairman of the Board of Marcus Oldham College Council.
In 1970 Robert was awarded a Nuffield Scholarship.
In 1992 was awarded the Member of the Order of Australia in recognition of service to primary industries through the wool industry and the Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria.
Churchill Trust
Robert joined the Churchill Trust in 1985 as member of the Primary Industry Panel of the Victorian Regional Committee. In 1993 he was elected Chairman of the Victorian Regional Committee and also served in this capacity on the Board of the Trust until 2011. In 2001 Robert was awarded a Centenary Medal for services to agricultural education. In 2012 he was appointed a Life Member of the Churchill Trust.
He passed away in July 2019.
