Following the conclusion of the formal two-day Conference in Perth, 44 scholars and partners flew to Esperance in Southern WA for a three-day regional tour. Highlights included a harbour and island boat cruise (on a glorious sunny day), a visit to the CBH Esperance port facility and interesting farm visits.

This tour was a fantastic opportunity to see how one of Australia’s very successful grain-growing areas operate, including the crops seen in the paddock, through to storage, handling and loading onto ships for export to international destinations. The full program in Esperance included:

• A Tour of Esperance Grain Handlers and CBH port facilities.
• A harbour cruise around the Esperance Port and Bay.
• Visit to Andrew Fowler’s (2000 Sch) family farm business.
• Visit to Phil Longmire’s (2004 Scholar) family farm business.
• Visit to Rory Graham – Salmon Gums, farm visit.
• Visit to Dave Campbell’s farm with a focus on compost.
• Visit to David Cox’s (2005 Scholar) family farm business.

Photos of the conference can be viewed in the photo gallery section of this web site. In 2014, the National Conference will be held in Tasmania from 18-22 September.
