Nuffield Australia Farming Scholarships has a team of dedicated staff drawing on a diverse mix of experience, education and knowledge to drive the leading farming scholarships program in Australia.
Jodie Dean, Chief Executive Officer
Jodie Dean has been the Chief Executive Officer of Nuffield Australia Farming Scholars since May 2016. She manages the application phase, selection and international study program for up to 30 Australian Nuffield Scholars annually. Prior to this, Jodie was Operations Manager at Grain Trade Australia (GTA) between February 2014 and April 2016, where she supported the GTA Technical Committees working across Trading Standards, Contracts and Trade Rules, transport, storage & ports issues, GM grains and Trade & Market Access. Jodie also administered the GTA Dispute Resolution Process and coordinated a range of events, workshops and communication activities. Prior to joining GTA, she was the Senior Manager – Agricultural Development at the Royal Agricultural Society (RAS) of NSW where she oversaw industry partnerships, education programs for school students and leadership development and ‘Youth In Ag’ programs during the Sydney Royal Easter Show and year round. Before joining the RAS, based in central west NSW, Jodie’s roles focused on applied research and extension in cropping and mixed farming systems and included working across the Grain & Graze Program, NSW DPI, Lachlan Catchment Management Authority and Central West Farming Systems where she commenced as an Extension Officer and progressed to the role of CEO. During this time she oversaw a number of RDC funded projects, corporate partnerships and managed a multi-disciplinary team of researchers, extension officers and administration and finance staff.
Nicola Raymond, Program Operations Manager
Nicola is a UK Nuffield Farming Scholar who brings a decade of experience from her career in the agri-food industry in the UK. Nicola has been in a communications support role with Nuffield Australia since 2011 and was the Event Coordinator for the 2011 Nuffield International Conference. A farmers’ daughter from Wales, Nicola was formerly the General Manager of the Welsh Meat Company, a farmer cooperative of 700 producer-members. She has lived in Australia since 2007 and was senior consultant for Currie Communications in Melbourne, where her clients included Dairy Australia and Meat & Livestock Australia. She has since relocated to Loxton, South Australia and manages her own business spanning marketing communications, event management, stakeholder and public relations activities. In 2010, she also graduated from RMIT University (Melbourne) with a PR Certificate. Nicola is passionate about agriculture and working on behalf of primary producers.
Sally Compton, Office and Accounts Manager / Executive Assistant
Sally Compton commenced work with Nuffield Australia in January 2017, as Office and Accounts Manager/Executive Assistant. Sally brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm from a ten-year career spanning office management, executive and personal assistant roles, with businesses including Roaming Gourmet and Zolsan as well as completing her nursing training. This experience includes direct links to agriculture from an early age, as Sally’s family owned and operated a number of farms across NSW in Young, Guyra and Inverell until recent years. Sally was active in the business from the early 1990s, which included a Angus beef cattle stud with New Zealand genetics, cropping, a small commercial sheep enterprises and introduction of a Charolais stud, primarily overseeing their office and administration functions. More recently, based in Sydney, Sally has been extensively engaged in volunteer and local community activities. She has serves on the local Lane Cove Rugby Union Club Committee and has recently been elected Vice president of the Club, the first ever female to achieve this milestone. Sally has also recently been elected to the Board of Directors as Secretary for Sydney Junior Rugby Union.
Theo Howell, Website Development and Graphic Design
Theo is an independent web developer and programmer who has been working with the Nuffield group since 2010. Responsible for the development and maintenance of Nuffield International online database in conjunction with Barry Horn he has helped make the web portal an actively used resource for scholars and managers alike. He is also responsible for the upkeep of Nuffield Australia’s website. Theo’s professional career as a software and website developer started at the turn of the century, first working for a firm that produced products for large retail chains and advertising agencies before breaking out on his own 9 years later. He now oversees websites and systems for customers over a variety of different industries including agricultural, medical, printing, clothing, construction and manufacturing.
Annette Coates, Accounts and Administration Support
Annette Coates is the Executive Assistant in accounts and administration for Nuffield Australia and has been processing Nuffield Australia’s accounts since 2003. Born in Temora, New South Wales, Annette attended primary school at Beckom, and high school in Griffith, NSW and went on to obtain her certificate at Griffith High School in 1970. From there, she completed a Day Secretarial Course at Griffith Technical College in 1971. Annette’s first position was with the Department of Agriculture. This was followed by the position of Town Clerk’s Secretary at the Griffith City Council. Annette is currently employed as Office Manager at SkyCroppers, an agricultural aerial contractor.
Chontell Giannini, Travel Coordinator
Chontell Giannini has worked at Jetset Travel Griffith since January 1997. She completed her certificate III in travel and tourism in 1996 and received the award for highest results. Since working at Jetset she has been awarded Top 20 Consultant Australian Wide for Contiki sales and has been awarded several positions on familiarisation trips due to high sales. Over the past few years, she has focused heavily on corporate travel, and manages numerous accounts both locally and interstate, as a result she specialises in fare construction. She has been assisting Nuffield with their travel arrangements since 2003 and enjoys the challenges it offers.
Barry Horn, Database and IT Support
Barry Horn is an IT specialist who has had a close association with a number of rural industries throughout his career. He manages the Nuffield International Database and assists the CEO with assigned tasks including creation of databases and directories, videoing, editing, apparel supply, scholar communications, surveys and IT support. Barry is a professional engineer with a management career in the food industry, including the establishment of the Heinz factory at Girgarre, Victoria. From 1994 to 2003, Barry Horn and Associates Pty Ltd provided consulting services to agribusiness industries with a focus on the global tomato processing industry. He is also the Chairman of a welfare organisation and assists clients with IT and computer skills.
